Johnston Police Increase Residential Patrols Amid Vehicle Thefts
Police said making sure to lock your car each night is the best way to deter having items - including your vehicle - stolen.
JOHNSTON, RI — While Johnston police said they have increased patrols in residential areas after an surge in items being stolen from unlocked cars overnight in the state this summer, police said the best way to deter thefts is to make sure to lock all vehicles at night.
"An overwhelming majority of these thefts have occurred when the owners have left their vehicles unsecured and keys inside the vehicles," Johnston police said. "We are encouraging all residents to lock their car doors in order to protect their valuables."
Johnston police ask that anyone who sees anything suspicious contact Johnston police at 401-231-8100 and report the suspicious behavior immediately.
