Lane Shift Coming To I-295 North In Johnston
Traffic will be shifted off of the current bridge and onto a new bridge on a service road.
JOHNSTON, RI — Changes are coming to Interstate 295 as crews enter the second phase of construction on several bridges. Lane changes will be in place by August 10.
To put the traffic change into place, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will have temporary lane and exit closures in place starting at 9 p.m. on August 9. The changeover will shift all traffic to the right, with all new lanes in place by 6 a.m. the next day.
The lane shift marks the second phase of construction in a $42.6 million project to make repairs to bridges at the Routes 6 and 6A interchange. Starting in early September, a similar lane shift is scheduled for the southbound side of the highway.
