The Department of Children, Youth and Families said the boy's family was known to the department, but not he or his guardian.
MIDDLETOWN, RI — A four-month-old baby died in June due to maltreatment, the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families said Wednesday. The little boy's family had prior involvement with the department, the release said, though he and his guardian did not.
According to DCYF, the baby died on June 10, prompting an investigation that confirmed the cause of death was due to maltreatment.
Middletown Police said emergency responders were called to the Oxbow Farms housing complex around 10 a.m. on June 10. EMTs began CPR on the infant, who was unresponsive when they arrived. He was taken to Newport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
