Annual Pie Run on Thanksgiving in Middletown Turns 30 This Year

The annual run takes place on Thanksgiving morning and begins and ends at the YMCA on Valley Road.

The Annual Pie Run in Middletown is an annual tradition every Thanksgiving and it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The run, sponsored by Savings Bank Institute and Trust, leads runners on a five mile, USATF-sanctioned course that begins at the YMCA on Valley Road and leads to Sachuset Point Road and back.

It offers lovely views along an enjoyable route across town and back. It also is a major fundraiser as runners bring canned goods and non-perishable food items to stock local food pantries.

Entrants are treated to a panoramic, beautiful course heavy on ocean vistas as they round Purgatory Road and descend downhill to Sachuest Point for a good portion of the course. Plus, they get to preemptively kick-start their metabolism on a day where high calories and sugary desserts are the norm—all while helping out a good cause.

A three-mile noncompetitive walk is held at the same time with runners stepping off at 7 a.m.
