Coronavirus: Middletown To Suspend Yard Waste Collection
Middletown has suspended bulk item and yard waste collection as of Wednesday due to the coronavirus health emergency.
MIDDLETOWN, RI — Yard waste and bulk item collection has been suspended in Middletown due to the new coronavirus health emergency. Republic Services, Middletown's Pay As You Throw vendor, said the temporary suspension is due to the increase in solid waste and recycling that has occurred due to residents staying at home during the state-at-home order.
Republic Services said it is prioritizing the collection of solid waste and recyclables for the community and assigning extra trucks and drivers to assist the regular drivers with this task. In order to safeguard employee health, Republic Service drivers will remain in their trucks and not collect any additional material on the ground next to container. Trash should be secured in bags in barrels.
The textile recycling program Simple Recycling is also suspended until further notice. The Bulk Waste Amnesty Day scheduled for May 2 is canceled and has not been rescheduled at this time.
