Coronavirus: ​Sachuest Point In Middletown Closed

MIDDLETOWN, RI —The Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge was closed to all public use as of Monday due to the coronavirus health emergency. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the closure on Monday with the support of the town of Middletown and state of Rhode Island.

"The health and safety of our visitors and employees on the National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island is our number one priority," the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said. "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with the federal, state and local authorities to closely monitor the novel coronavirus situation. A reopening date has not been determined at this time."

A reopening of the refuge will be posted on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service website.

"We urge our visitors to do their part and to follow CDC guidance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases by maintaining a safe distance between yourself and other groups, washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze; and most importantly, staying home if you feel sick," The Fish and Wildlife Service said.
