The Inaugural Elliot Kaminitz Father's Day Ride will be held Sunday

Â
One year following the death of local dentist and father Dr. Elliot Kaminitz, family and friends organized a Father's Day bike ride in his honor.
The Inaugural Elliot Kaminitz Father's Day Ride will be held this Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. at Fort Adams. Riders may choose between a 6, 10 or 25 mile bike ride along Newport's scenic coast.

Bike Newport, the event's sponsor, is partnering with the City of Newport and The Newport Energy and Environment Commission in an effort to implement sustainable practices Sunday's bike ride.
Using sustainable events protocols designed by the state Department of Environmental Management and endorsed by the NEEC, the Elliot Kaminitz Father's Day Bike Ride has achieved Gold Status given its efforts to reduce waste, eliminate the use of single use bottles, and engage in composting and recycling. By adopting these specific sustainable protocols at this event, it will reduce many of the negative environmental impacts that commonly occur with large events. Â
Bike Newport’s voluntary adoption of sustainable protocols will serve in the long run to protect our sensitive coastal community and maintain Newport as a desirable and exciting tourist destination for decades to come.  The full scope of the Newport Sustainable Events Program can be found on the DEM website.
