Mary P. "Pat" McCarthy, 84, Worked for Newport Public Schools

​Mary Patricia "Pat" McCarthy, 84, formerly of Warren Avenue, Middletown, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Newport Hospital.

Mary Patricia “Pat” McCarthy, 84, formerly of Warren Avenue, Middletown, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Newport Hospital.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Catherine A. (Fitzgerald) O’Connor.

Pat was the wife of the late Robert J. McCarthy, LCDR, USN (Ret.). She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Springfield, MA and received an Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Rhode Island. Before her marriage, Pat was employed by the Hamden County District Court of Springfield, MA as a senior clerk in the Probation Department. Later, she was employed by the Newport School Department as an aid and subsequently as a secretary, retiring in 1991. Pat was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Newport for over 40 years.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel and his wife Norma of Colorado Springs, CO, Thomas and his wife Michele of Chattanooga, TN, William of Fall River, MA and one daughter, Karen Hayes and her husband Mark Hayes of Enterprise, Alabama; four grandsons, Robert, Thomas, and Cameron McCarthy, CPT Jeffrey Hayes and granddaughter, Kelly Hayes; four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, Mary and Roland Hayes; and her sisters, Kathryn Connors of Osterville, MA and Beatrice Murphy of Longmeadow, MA.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Memorial Blvd. and Spring Street, Newport, RI.

Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
