Middletown Beach Closed, 2 Others Reopened
Two beaches on Watchaug pond were reopened, while Surfer's End at Sachuset Beach was closed.
MIDDLETOWN, RI — A Middletown beach was closed the same day that Watchaug Pond was declared safe for swimming. On Tuesday evening, the Rhode Island Department of Health announced that Surfer's End at Sachuset Beach is unsafe for swimming due to high bacteria levels.
At the same time, the department reopened two beaches on Watchaug Pond: YMCA Camp Watchaug and Burlingame Picnic Area.
For the most up-to-date beach closure information, call the department's prerecorded beach line at 401-222-2751.
