Middletown Beach Closed For High Bacteria Levels
Third Beach in Middletown was the only Rhode Island beach to be closed to swimming this week.
MIDDLETOWN, RI — Third Beach in Middletown was closed Thursday due to high bacteria levels, state officials announced Thursday. It was unclear when the beach could reopen; the Rhode Island Department of Health said the beach will be evaluated on a daily basis.
It was the only beach in the state to be closed this week. Most state beaches have opened for the season.
"(The Rhode Island Department of Health) will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season," officials said in a statement Thursday. "The status of a beach may change on a daily basis."
