Middletown, Portsmouth Police To Increase Safety Traffic Patrols

Departments will combine on "Operation Safe Summer" to crack down on speeding and reckless operation.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Middletown and Portsmouth police will combine on "Operation Safe Summer" over the next couple of months with increased traffic patrols aimed at cracking down on speeding and reckless vehicle operation.

Middletown Chief William Kewer and Portsmouth Chief Brian P. Peters will coordinate the effort that is set to include highly visible patrols at different times of the day and different locations.

"Every year both the Portsmouth and Middletown Police Departments have the responsibility of investigating serious and tragic motor vehicle crashes," the departments said in a joint statement. "Together, the two departments seek to lower the rate of crashes and eliminate aggressive driving actions of motorists on the roadways. Our combined efforts are meant to keep the roadways of Middletown and Portsmouth safe, so that all may enjoy a safe summer."
