Middletown Woman Identified As Victim in Newport Crash

Katelin Pimental, 19, was killed in a Saturday morning crash on Brenton Rd. in Newport.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—The woman who was killed in a Saturday morning crash on Brenton Rd. in Newport has been identified as Katelin Pimental, 19, of Middletown.

Pimental was killed at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Saturday after the Nissan Altima she was traveling in with four other people hit a utility pole wire, a tree, and then a stone pillar in the area of Brenton and Wickham Roads, according to Norton Fire Chief Brian Dugan.

The driver of the vehicle, Dekiah Laitola, 21, of Swansea, MA, has been charged with one count of driving to endanger resulting in death and three counts of driving to endanger resulting in physical injury, said police.

Laitola was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, Dec. 15 in 2nd Division District Court.

The incident remains under investigation.
