Obituary: Florence Louise Schuster, 89

Florence Louise (Esleeck) Schuster, 89, of Middletown died on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Newport Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

She was the wife of retired Newport Police Sergeant, Alfred “Bud” Schuster.

Born in Newport, RI, on May 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bridget (O’Shea) Esleeck. Florence’s mother immigrated from Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland at the age of 17.

Florence graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy in 1944 and Annhurst College in Woodstock, CT in 1948. She retired as a remedial reading specialist for the Newport School Department in 1987, after 30 years of service. Florence was an avid beach goer. She spent many years wintering with Bud on the east coast of Florida. Her favorite destination was St. Augustine.

Besides her husband of 66 years, Florence leaves her sons Robert Schuster of Florida and James Schuster of Middletown, RI, her daughters Deborah Spicer of Louisiana and Barbara Schuster of Vermont and Middletown, RI, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren, her brother Arthur Esleeck of California, many cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was the sister of the late Bernard “Bud” Esleeck and John Esleeck.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 10:30am, in St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.

Burial will be held in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown, RI.
