Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Middletown Crash

Robert Ivey, 48, died Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle on West Main Road.

MIDDLETOWN, RI — A pedestrian was killed in a car crash on West Main Road in Middletown late Wednesday night. Police say the victim, Robert Ivey, 48, was hit by a vehicle after he stepped off the sidewalk and into the southbound lane. No charges have been filed against the driver at the time.

Middletown and Portsmouth police officers found Ivey laying in the road, seriously injured, when they arrived on scene just after 9:30 p.m. He was taken to Newport Hospital, where his died from his injuries.

The driver, Altina Lester, 68, of Newport, was driving in the southbound lane of West Main Road at the time of the crash. Lester stayed at the scene, along with several witnesses, and cooperated with police. No charges have been filed against her at this time.
