RI Roads Less Traveled: Fall Foliage Walk In Middletown

This little park is less well known than Sachuest or Norman Bird Sanctuary, but the dogs (leashed, of course) are welcome here.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—The fall foliage is late this year, and Newport and surrounding towns are still green. But it's still a good time to take some walks and enjoy the scenery. Middletown has many scenic places with walking trails, including the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge and the Norman Bird Sanctuary. There's also a less traveled spot, Paradise Valley Park, at the corner of Paradise and Prospect. That's also a spot where the dogs (leashed, of course) can come along. (The dogs aren't allowed at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge or at the Norman Bird Sanctuary.)

The park has about a half mile trail, which takes visitors by Boyd's Windmill, which was moved there in 1995, by the Paradise Schoolhouse (1875), now home to the Middletown Historical Society, and by a view of St. George's School.
