5 Things: Flower Show, Graduation
Bay View Academy celebrates a Newport resident with an award.

1. Bay View Academy announced the distinguished winners of its 2011-2012 athletics awards. These awards are given to Bay View student athletes in grades 9 through 12. Newport resident Rachel Clair, a senior, won the Sister Elizabeth McAuliffe, Sportswomenship Award, which is presented to senior athletes who exhibit all the qualities of good sportswomenship on and off the playing fields.Â
2. The following resident graduated from Marist College the weekend of May 18. Bernadette Heydt of Newport, received a bachelor of professional studies degree in interior design.

3. Calling all Newport Mansions Preservation Society members! The annual meeting will take place at on Thursday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Go, enjoy a snapshot look at the past year, and a look ahead.
4. Hot colors and exotic plants will be the centerpiece at the 17th annual Newport Flower Show, Salsa, A Celebration of Latin Cultures, June 22-24 at Rosecliff.

5. Preservation Society CEO and Executive Director Trudy Coxe will present a retrospective on one of America's yachtsmen, Harold S. Vanderbilt, three-time winner of the America's Cup, on June 21 at 11 a.m. at The Elms.
