Coffey's Garage Demolished For Newport Spring Park Project
The former service station was knocked down to make room for the proposed Historic Spring Park.

NEWPORT, RI — Construction is underway for a planned park at the site of Newport's historic spring. On Wednesday, the former Coffey's garage was demolished to make way for the new park.
According to the city, the longtime service station needed to be moved to make way for the park, which will mark the site of the original freshwater spring that Newport was founded around.
As part of the construction process, the city has been testing a new traffic pattern in the area until October 15. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback with the city. The new traffic pattern closed Court House Street to traffic, redirecting traffic around the proposed park site. To access Washington Square and Farewell Street, drivers can take Stone Street, which is currently a one-way from Spring Street to Broadway.
