Construction Planned For Newport's Historic Hill Neighborhood
Road, sidewalk and curb improvements are planned for High, School and Division Streets.
NEWPORT, RI — Some big changes are coming to several historic Newport streets. Starting later this month, crews will begin reconstruction work on High, School and Division Streets in the city's Historic Hill neighborhood.
Construction will begin later this month, Newport police said. The reconstruction process is part of a larger road improvement project in the city. Work on the three streets will include repaving the road surface and making improvements to the sidewalks and curb.
"As you might imagine, undertaking any type of work within Newport's historic core requires a great deal of care," Newport police said in the announcement. "While access to properties will be maintained throughout the construction process, we do anticipate that residents will encounter some inconveniences as driveways are replaced, sidewalks are restored, and the road surface is repaved."

Weather permitting, the project is set to be complete by spring. City workers will make their way through the neighborhood in the next few days, letting affected residents know about the project. An informational meeting will be held in the City Council chambers on the second floor of Newport City Hall on Thursday at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in learning more about the project or its impacts is encouraged to attend.
