Construction Wraps Up On Newport Pell Bridge For 2020
All barriers will be removed and two lanes will again be open in both directions.

NEWPORT, RI — The second phase of construction is complete on the Newport Pell Bridge, meaning work has officially wrapped up for this year. All barriers will be removed by the end of the week, returning traffic to two lanes in each direction.
The project has been underway since March, and has included rotating lane closures as crews worked to replace parts of the bridge deck. As a result, long-term lane closures have been in place, though traffic backups were not as serious as initially expected due to decreased travel because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Weather delays and an issue with obtaining the equipment needed, construction will briefly resume in April to seal the new concrete bridge deck. While lane restrictions will be in place, all work is scheduled to be completed overnight, meaning there will be no impact to daytime travel.
