David T. Sigler Earns Eagle Award

He is Newport's newest Eagle Scout, Troop 3 said.

NEWPORT, RI — David Thomas Sigler is now an Eagle Scout. For his leadership project, he surveyed trees at Rogers High and had them included in the Rhody Tree database. According to the Boy Scouts, David named his grandfather, David L. Sigler of Wapakoneta, Ohio, as his mentor.

David started scouting in first grade. He belonged to Pack 33 in Yokosuka, Japan and has also been a scout in Milwaukee, WI and Norfolk, VA. He moved to Newport, RI with his family in 2015 and joined Troop #3 Newport.

According to the Boy Scouts' press release, "David was elected into the Order of the Arrow in 2014 and attended the National Order of the Arrow Centennial Conference and the High Adventure Camp in the Minnesota Boundary Waters in 2016. This summer, David will attend the OA Ocean Adventure camp in Key West, Florida.

"David will be a senior at Rogers High School in the fall where he is enrolled in Advanced Placement and Honors courses. He is a member of the Rogers cross country team, sailing team, CyberPatriots and band. He also participated in track and field and orchestra at Rogers. He is a member of the Latin Honor Society and National Honor Society and was selected as a recipient of the 2017 RI Civic Leadership Award.

"David lives in Newport with his parents David and Bethany Sigler and two brothers who are also in scouting."
