Election 2018: Newport Council, School Board Winners

Unofficial results for the local races indicate Justin McLaughlin battled his way back to an at-large council seat.

NEWPORT, RI--Justin McLaughlin has won back his seat as an at-large city councilor, according to unofficial results posted by the state Board of Elections. Three other at-large incumbents, Jamie Bova, Susan Taylor and Jeanne Marie Napolitano, also were winners. Marco Camacho, however, was defeated.

In Ward 1, Angela McCalla defeated James Dring. In Ward 2, Lynn Ceglie beat Valerie Larkin.

Kathryn Leonard in Ward 3 ran unopposed.

Turning to the school committee, incumbent David R. Carlin III was defeated. Aida G. Neary was the top vote-getter. Raymond E. Gomes, Kathleen M. Silvia, Lousia H. Boatwright, Rebecca Bolan, Sandra Flowers and Robert Leary were the other winners.

In the General Assembly, all the incumbents won. Dawn Euer won the Senate District 13 contest, and Louis DiPalma won District 12. State Rep. Marvin Abney won the District 73 race, and Lauren Carson,who ran unopposed, stays on as the District 75 representative.
