Explore Miantonomi Park on Sundays This August

A chance to get out of the house and experience some history in the great outdoors.

On Sundays through the month of August, the Miantonomi Tower will once again be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., allowing visitors to climb to the highest point on Aquidneck Island.

The City of Newport and Aquidneck Land Trust have announced the Second Annual Miantonomi Exploration Days, where patrons are encouraged to explore the trails, wildlife and historic sites in Newport’s largest park.

Established as a World War I memorial park, Miantonomi Park includes Miantonomi Hill, the highest point in Newport. The Hill, once the seat of power for the Narragansett tribe, has housed British colonial light beacons, Revolutionary War fortifications, and a 1929 memorial tower designed by famed architectural firm Meade, McKim and White.
