Frigid Temps, High Winds Return To RI This Week

While the cold snap is expected to be short, it will be very unpleasant to fans of the recent springlike weather.

NEWPORT, RI — After a week of springlike temperatures, wintery weather is returning to Rhode Island. Although there's no snow in the forecast, string winds gusts and frigid temperatures are expected to make for an unpleasant day Tuesday.

Strong wind gusts are expected to move in later in the day Monday, with speeds up to 50 mph across most of the state. Block Island is supposed to get the worst of it, with gusts expected to reach 55 mph. The National Weather Service declared a wind advisory from 4 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Rhode Islanders who must be outside Tuesday are encouraged to bundle up, since wind chills could be as low as negative two degrees.
