NEWPORT, RI — Police say the man hurt early Thursday morning in a scooter accident is being charged with drunk driving. Brandon King, 31, of Newport, banged into a fence on Malbone Road around 1:20 Tuesday morning. According to the report, he was driving a moped northbound on Malbone when his scooter left the road, went on to a grass shoulder and hit the fence. Medics took him to Newport Hospital where he was treated.
Police described his injuries as "non life-threatening."
He committed multiple offenses, police allege. In addition to the Driving under the influence charge, he was also cited for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, Operating on a Suspended License, Leaving the Lane of Travel, Operating without Evidence of Insurance, and Driving with an Expired Registration, police said.
