Mary Lou Daly, 64

Mary Lou Daly, of Newport, died Nov. 5. A Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church, Providence.

NEWPORT, RI—Mary Lou Daly, 64, of Newport, died Nov. 5. Her funeral is Friday, Nov. 9 at 8:45 a.m. from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence 02906 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Sebastian Church, Cole Avenue.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Lou (Doherty) and W. Norbert Daly. One of six children, she grew up on Providence's East Side and attended St. Sebastian School. (She and sister Patricia Daly Verde returned to St. Sebastian Church for the recent 100th anniversary.) Her father's family owned the Weypure (Weybosset Pure Foods) grocery stores at Wayland Square and on Weybosset Street in Downtown Providence. She continued her education at Elmhurst Academy, attended Dunbarton College and was graduated from American University. According to her obituary, she held several different positions and most enjoyed work as a personal assistant to several Newport families. Also in Newport, she was the office manager at Newport This Week during the era when Bert Quint was the editor. She also took photographs for the newspaper and dealt skillfully with its colorful personalities. She belonged to the Redwood Library and to the University Club of Boston. In addition to her sister Patricia, she is survived by sisters Susan Daly, of Newport, and Jane Daly, of Boston; two brothers, James D. Daly, of Providence, and William N. Daly and his wife Susan, of Portsmouth, nieces and nephews.
