Multicultural Festival Held for Families at Pell School
Students and families shared information about countries around the world while celebrating the school's rich diversity

Over 250 students, families, faculty members, and staff traveled the world to twenty-five countries on Friday, November 30, 2018, during the Annual Multicultural Festival held at the Pell Elementary School in Newport. The evening was sponsored by the Newport Family and Child Opportunity Zone (NFCOZ), a division of East Bay Community Action Program, and is a favorite event each year.
At this family-driven, inter-generational event, families put on view display boards they have prepared with information about their country including maps, culture, and interesting facts. They also share samplings of food, dress, dance, music, and customs. Countries represented included: Brazil, United States (New Orleans), Moldova, Russia, Japan, Antigua, Barbuda, Trinidad, Cape Verde, Puerto Rico, Norway, Italy, Ireland, France, Vietnam, Switzerland, El Salvador, New Zealand, Morocco, Pakistan,Tunisia, Greece, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Benin.
The Pell Elementary School is a diverse community of learners with students from all over the world. The event provides an opportunity for students and families to meet, mingle and socialize as they share their culture and traditions with the each other. Multicultural Night is one of four academic events sponsored by the NFCOZ in partnership with Pell Elementary School, as part of its 21st Century Community Learning Center Program which is funded by the U.S Department of Education.
