Naval Station Newport's 'Salute To Summer' Returns In August

NEWPORT, RI — Naval Station Newport's annual "Salute to Summer" event is coming back in August, with live performances, fireworks and food vendors.

This year's celebration will be held Aug. 28. Gates will open to the public at 4 p.m., thought authorized Department of Defense cardholders will be allowed in starting at 2 p.m.

The event will be free, featuring performances from local bands and the Navy Band Northeast. Children's activities will be held throughout the evening, and food vendors will be on-site. The fireworks display will begin around 9:15 p.m.
