Newport Ballet Company Holding 'Nutcracker' Auditions

NEWPORT, RI — Christmas may seem months away, but Newport's Island Moving Company is holding auditions for this year's production of "The Nutcracker." The company is looking for children ages seven to 11 and 12 and over for the production, which will be staged at the historic Rosecliff mansion.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 14 at the Newport Academy of Ballet, on the second floor of 3 Charles St. Registration costs $30 before September 9 or $40 any later, paid by cash or check made payable to Island Moving Co. Audition forms are available online.

Ages seven to 11 will be auditioned from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Applications for this age range are asked to include a recent, 4-by-6 full body dance photo in a leotard and tights.

The second audition for ages 12 and older will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Dance photos for this group should be a full-body shot in tendu a la seconde in a leotard and tights.

All participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled audition time. Female dancers should wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink shoes, pointe if appropriate, with hair up in a bun. Male dancers are asked to wear a white t-shirt, black leggings, white socks ad white ballet shoes. No skirts, leg-warmers or sweaters will be allowed.
