Newport Flower Show Returns In 2021, With Socially-Distant Twist
The self-guided walkthrough exhibit will run from June 18 to 20.
NEWPORT, RI — After last year's event was postponed by the coronavirus pandemic, the Newport Flower Show is making a comeback in 2021, with a socially-distant twist. "Back in Bloom: A Ballroom Floral Fantasy" will debut at Rosecliff in June.
For three days, Rosecliff's 2,800-square-foot ballroom will be "transformed into a verdant oasis" filled with displays representing themes such as "garden nymph," "harvest moon" and "fireflies." The display will spill out into the mansion's salon, which will focus on the theme of "a garden at nighttime." The back terrace, meanwhile, will feature a display modeled after a conservatory, with more exhibit tables from local artists.
Unlike Flower Shows past, "Back In Bloom" will not have live lectures, demonstrations or shopping boutiques due to pandemic restrictions. The Newport Mansions store on-site at Rosecliff will be open.

"We have designed this event with the health of our visitors and staff in mind," said Trudy Coxe, Executive Director and CEO of The Preservation Society of Newport County. "After hosting The Newport Flower Show for 24 years and being forced to cancel it last year because of the pandemic, we wanted to do something for the floral enthusiasts who are among our best supporters."
The tour will be formatted as a one-way walk-through exhibit, allowing visitors to remain distanced from other groups. The large spaces and tours design "will enable us to put on a spectacular floral exhibit while following COVID regulations," Coxe said.
