Newport Man, 18, Arrested Following SWAT Raid

An 18-year-old Newport man was arrested on a warrant following a SWAT team search of his home.

Elijah Devon Weeden, 18, of 90 Girard Ave. Apt. 148, Newport, was arrested on a bench warrant following a search warrant at a Festival Field apartment. The Newport Police Vice Unit received a tip that Weeden was dealing crack cocaine and possessed a hand gun.

Police deployed the SWAT team to conduct the search of the apartment, as is standard in any instances that are high risk or involve weapons. Police did not find any crack cocaine or other drugs in the apartment, but they did seize a silver magazine for a handgun, ripped baggies and a digital scale that contained suspected cocaine and marijuana residue.

Weeden was released on $2,185 bail and will be arraigned in Second Division District Court on May 23 at 8 a.m.

Newport Man Turns Himself in on Warrant

Christopher Daniel Toner, 32, of 51 Marchant St., Newport, was arrested on Thursday, May 23 at 10 a.m. on a warrant. Tone approached a police officer on construction detail Broadway, stating that he thought he had an active arrest warrant against him for failure to appear for a pre-trial conference for a suspended license charge in Second Division District Court.

Toner was released on $5,000 bail with surety.

Homeless Man Cited for Public Drinking

Joseph Russel Cote, 41, homeless, was cited for possesing an open alcohol container in public on Thursday, May 23 at 4:35 p.m. Cote will be arraigned in Second Division District Court on June 17 at 1 p.m.

Attleboro Man Arrested After Drunken Visit to Ex-Girlfriend's Home

Ruben Diaz, 49, of 85 Mulberry St., Attleboro, MA, was arrested on Friday, May 24 and charged with disorderly conduct and wilfull trespass after he allegedly turned up intoxicated at an ex-girlfriends home yelling, screaming and refused to leave. After the woman called police to force Diaz from the property, he left without incident but returned five minutes later tell police and his ex-girlfriend that he had peed his pants and needed a change of clothes. A police officer went inside to asses Diaz's exgirlfriend find the pants and when he retured, Diaz was standing the porch facing the street with his pants down.
