Newport Police Arrest Cranston Man Hiding In Hunter Playground

A Cranston man tried to hide when police arrived and took him into custody on a bench warrant.

NEWPORT, RI — A Cranston man fled from police and tried to hide Wednesday afternoon. Israel J. Dyer, 19, was wanted on a bench warrant, a misdemeanor. He ran when police arrived at 4:31 p.m. at Washington and Van Zandt streets. Police said they went there on a service call. According to the police narrative, Dyer hid in the Hunter Playground where police caught him. In addition to the warrant, he was charged with Obstructing an officer.
