Newport Police Seek Suspects In Murder Investigation

NEWPORT, RI — Newport police are looking for a pair of men wanted in a felony assault over the weekend, that resulted in death. The victim, Maximus Julian, died of his injuries Tuesday.

The assault happened just after midnight Sunday, police said, near Thames Street and Lee Avenue. Julian was stabbed in the neck and another person was stabbed in the leg, police said. Both victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where Julian later died.

According to police, the stabbing happened after a fight that broke out at a party in a Thames Street house. The fight between Julian and two others, later identified as 18-year-old Tyrese Poulsen and 19-year-old Jamaal Reid.

Poulsen is wanted on a murder charge, while Reid is wanted on charges of harboring a criminal and disorderly conduct.
