Newport School Committee Seeks Candidates To Fill Vacant Seat

Interested Newport residents can submit their letters of interest by February 21.

NEWPORT, RI —The City of Newport is looking for candidates to fill the vacancy on the school committee following the resignation of Kathleen Silvia in January.

The school committee is set to receive the formal letter of resignation from Silvia at their upcoming meeting on Feb. 12. Following this, the committee has approximately 30 days to fill the vacancy, as is outline in the city charter.

Any Newport residents interested in filling the position is encouraged to submit a letter of interest by Feb. 21, along with any relevant credentials. Letters can be mailed to the mayor's office at Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840.

Interviews will begin no later than two weeks after the deadline. They will be open to the public.

Whoever is chosen to fill Silvia's seat will only hold the position until the upcoming election on Nov. 3.
