Newport Tennis Week: 'Aces For RI' To Benefit Non-Profits
Every time a player hits an ace on the Stadium Court, a local non-profit organization wins, the International Tennis Hall of Fame said.
NEWPORT, RI—Maybe everybody can't win a tennis match. But the International Tennis Hall of Fame and seven local organizations have come up with a little game that will turn a lot of people into champs. And they don't need to practice or be born with an arm that can serve bullets.
This is the deal. People sign up online to pledge with Aces for Rhode Island. Every time a player in the Hall of Fame Open smacks an ace on stadium court, one of the local non-profit organizations cashes in. Pledges start at five cents. If history is any indicator, the tennis pros should serve up 300 aces during the tournament, the Tennis Hall of Fame said. That means a five-cent pledge would give about $15 to an organization, while a dollar pledge would be worth $300.

- Boys and Girls Club of Newport County
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center
- Lucy’s Hearth
- Newport County YMCA
- Redwood Library & Athenæum
- Sail Newport
- Year Up Providence.
Pledges start Wednesday, May 30 and can be made throughout the tournament from July 15 to 22. If you don't want to pick just, you can split the donation among several or all seven. Click here to sign up.
