Resolute Cup Brings World Class Yacht Racing To Newport

Sailing aficionados can have their chance to see the best racing yachts and teams in the country.

NEWPORT, RI – Rhode Islanders can expect to see a lot more action on the water this September when the 2016 Resolute Cup comes to the Newport area.

The fourth staging of the amateur biennial race will take place Sept. 12 to 17 and will be sailed out of the New York Yacht Club's Harbour Court Clubhouse in Newport. The Resolute Cup will see 30 yacht clubs from around the nation competing in two yacht classes for bragging rights and a spot in the internationally-acclaimed 2017 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational.

The yachts themselves will be tracked electronically and the regatta will be broadcasted live on the Internet allowing racing fans from around the world to enjoy the thrill of competition, while Rhode Islanders will get the best views of the race from the shores of Narragansett Bay.
