Rhode Island Gas Prices Drop Another 5 Cents
Rhode Island gas prices continued their slow decline over the past week.
As summer approaches, gas prices are on the decline in Rhode Island. In the past week, the average cost per gallon fell five cents, bringing the average price to $2.76. This time last year, gas prices were considerably higher at an average of $2.95 per gallon.
Rhode Island's average cost per gallon is two cents higher than the national average of $2.74. Increased supply and lower crude oil prices are expected to keep the downward trend going this week and into the summer months.
"Refinery utilization in the United States is at its highest level since early January, resulting in supplies at healthy levels to meet robust consumer demand," said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. "Prices are dropping due to cheaper crude oil and at the same time U.S. supply is keeping pace with demand. The national average is poised to fall to at least $2.70 this week – an indication that pump prices may be even cheaper this summer."
