Rhode Island Gas Prices Fall Another 4 Cents
Rhode Island gas prices are on the decline during a time of year when increased demand usually drives costs up.
Rhode Island's gas prices are once again on the decline. Over the past week, the average cost for a gallon of gas fell four cents over the past week to an average price of $2.72, four cents higher than the national average of $2.68 per gallon.
The drop in price comes at the beginning of the summer season, when prices are generally pushed up by increased demand. This time last year, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas cost nearly a quarter more at $2.93.
"The decline in prices is unusual for this time of year as prices usually trend higher during the summer months due to increased demand," said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast. "This year, however, growing gasoline inventories are contributing to relief at the pump as we head into summer."
