Rhode Island Gas Prices Hold Steady For Second Week

For the first time in a long time, Rhode Island's average gas price is higher than the national average.

For the second week in a row, Rhode Island gas prices have held steady at an average of $2.86 per gallon. That's one cent higher than the national average, marking the first time in a long time that Rhode Islanders have paid more than the national average.

The current average cost is considerably lower than the average price this time last year, which was nine cents higher at $2.95.

"Gas prices are getting cheaper for the majority of drivers, despite the fact that gasoline stocks in the U.S. are running at a deficit compared with last year," said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs. "Crude oil prices have been relatively stable in the past few months, and that stability is moderating pump prices. Nearly half the country’s retailers are offering gas at $2.75 or less."
