Rhode Island Gas Prices Surge 13 Cents

Gas prices only continue to rise across Rhode Island, increasing by an average of 13 cents in the last week. The average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded now costs $2.83. Rhode Island's average price is still five cents below the national average of $2.88.

"Compared to the beginning of the year, motorists have definitely felt an increasing squeeze on their wallets at the pump," said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs in a release. "These increases mean Americans are having to work more to afford to fill up their gas tanks. AAA found that, nationally, Americans must work 22 percent longer than at the start of the year to buy one gallon of unleaded gasoline - that’s 7.3 minutes compared to 5.76 minutes in January."

Across the country, gas prices have only climbed since the U.S. State Department announced the end of waivers for countries to import oil from Iran a week ago.

In Rhode Island, prices range from a low of $2.63 to a just below $3.00 per gallon. Here is the average cost and price range for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island this week, according to AAA Northeast.
