Rhode Island's Average Gas Price Falls Below $2
This time last year, the average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island was 88 cents higher.
Rhode Island's average gas price fell below $2 per gallon this week, according to AAA Northeast. The average price dropped 6 cents from the week before, bringing the average price to $1.95 per gallon.
Gas prices in Rhode Island and across the country have been in free fall in past weeks, and that trend is expected to continue.
"AAA forecasts that the national average will continue to decrease into next month, possibly dropping as low as $1.65," said AAA spokesperson Lloyd Albert AAA. "We haven’t seen gas prices that cheap around the country since early in 2009."

This week's average price is 88 cents higher than this time last year, when it was $2.83 per gallon. Rhode Island's average price per gallon is 17 higher than the national average of $1.77.
Across the state, prices range nearly $1, from a low of $1.29 to a high of $2.23. The average price and range for a gallon of gas is listed below, by grade.
