RI Communities Offer Students Meals During Coronavirus Shutdown

With all Rhode Island schools closed for one week in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus. In communities across the state, grab and go meal stations have been set up to make sure that kids who rely on school meals have something to eat.

Anyone under 18 who shows up to the sites will receive a free meal, with no ID or residency requirements. The child must be present however, as school workers will not give meals to parents on behalf of a child. New sites are being added by the day, so parents are encouraged to reach out to their individual school department for more information.

Last week, Governor Gina Raimondo closed all public schools in the state for one week, moving up April vacation. She urged all private and religious schools to do the same.

Bristol
