RI Sets New Daily Coronavirus High; Passes 30K Cases In Total
There were four more deaths and a 3.2 percent positive test rate Thursday, state public health officials said.

RHODE ISLAND — There were 449 coronavirus cases confirmed Thursday, a new daily high for Rhode Island as it struggles to contain virus. There have now been 30,118 cases during the pandemic.
The Department of Public Health said there were four new deaths, bringing the total to 1,177. Thirteen people are in intensive care and nine of those are on ventilators.
There were 14,073 tests performed Thursday. The positive test rate increased to 3.2 percent.

"While Rhode Island’s COVID-19 numbers are not moving in the right direction, we absolutely have the power to change our trajectory," DPH Director Nicole Alexander-Scott said in a statement Thursday. "We all need to be wearing our masks when we’re around people we don’t live with, limiting our groups, and avoiding non-essential activities with people outside our households as the holidays approach."
