Round 2: Thunderstorms Again In The Forecast For Rhode Island

More than 10,000 Rhode Islanders lost power as thunderstorms moved across the state Tuesday. More are on the way Wednesday.

Here we go again. For the second day in a row, severe weather is in the forecast for Rhode Island.

Scattered, severe thunderstorms are possible throughout the afternoon and early evening hours. The National Weather Service categorized the entire state as yellow, the second of five levels of severe weather outlooks. The greatest concern will be for damaging winds and isolated large hail, the NWS said. Periods of heavy rain are likely, along with wind gusts as high as 60 mph.

A string of powerful storms swept across the state Tuesday night, knocking out power to more than 10,000 residents by about 8 p.m. Along with the severe weather, extremely hot weather is back, with heat indices as high as 97 degrees in Providence Wednesday afternoon.
