Crash Brings Newport Bridge Traffic To A Standstill
The crash happened on the westbound side of the bridge near the toll plaza, closing all travel lanes in that direction.

NEWPORT, RI — A crash near the toll plaza on the Newport Bridge slowed traffic to a crawl Tuesday evening. Westbound traffic was completely stopped as crews worked to clear the scene.
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority reported the crash around 7:15 p.m. It happened on the westbound side of the bridge just before the toll plaza bringing traffic heading out of Newport to a halt as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. By 7:45 p.m., a tow truck had arrived, though traffic was still closed.
The crash was cleared just before 8 p.m., allowing traffic to reopen.
