Traffic Alert: Crash Causes Backups On Newport Pell Bridge

The crash was cleared a little after 4 p.m., but continued delays are likely in the area.

NEWPORT, RI — A crash on the westbound side of the Newport bridge is causing delays heading out of the city on Monday afternoon. While the crash was cleared just after 4 p.m., residual delays are likely heading into the evening commute.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the westbound high speed lane, just past the second tower, the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority said.

According to Rhode Island State Police, three vehicles were involved in the crash, and one had to be towed away. No injuries were reported, and the crash was cleared by 4:09 p.m.
