Water Main Flushing Underway In Newport, Portsmouth, Middletown

NEWPORT, RI — Overnight water main flushing has begun in Portsmouth, Middletown and part of Newport's North end neighborhood. Flushing began on Sunday night and will continue until Oct. 24. Signs will be posted in each area before it flushing, which will be completed from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

While flushing is underway, low water pressure and brown, discolored water is common, the City of Newport said. If this happens, run cold water taps in your home, including bathtubs and sicks, for five to 10 minutes,running the discolored water through and out of out of the pipes. Residents are asked to minimize use of water in their homes while flushing is happening. For more information, call 401-845-5600.
