Water Main Leak At Rogers High, Career Center: Newport Schools

The school department posted a notice on its web page to say no one should report for school or work Tuesday.

NEWPORT, RI—Rogers High and the Career and Technical Center were closed Tuesday and will stay closed again Wednesday. The reason is due to a water problem. The closing was initially announced on the school's webpage.

"We had a water main leak and have no water in the building. NO ONE SHOULD REPORT TO THE HIGH SCHOOL OR NACTC TODAY 10/30."

Classes are expected to resume Thursday.

"It's a service issue," Don Havey at the water department said. The water department is assisting the school, he said. City and school officials were meeting Tuesday morning.

Also Tuesday, the schools sent e-mail to say the Newport School Committee School Building Subcommittee "has been cancelled due to the water main break in Rogers High School. The meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible."
