Man Arrested In Connection With North Providence Shooting

NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI — A man was arrested Friday evening in connection with Thursday's shooting at 21 Winona St., according to North Providence police chief Col. Alfredo Ruggiero Jr.

Michael Monteiro, 52, was arrested without incident in the basement of 15 Taft St. at about 6:40 p.m. on Friday, Ruggiero said in a news release. Monteiro was charged with felony assault, firing in a compact area and simple assault.

On Thursday, James Coccia, 48, and his girlfriend, Jill Moisuk, 40, said two men kicked in their door at about 2 a.m. and shot Coccia in the chest. On Friday evening, Coccia was reported in stable condition in Rhode Island Hospital, the news release said.

Ruggiero said police were searching the Taft Street house for the gun used in the shooting.
