Man Injured In North Providence Shooting

Police responded to 74 Joseph Street Thursday afternoon and found a man shot in the hand and leg.

NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI — A man was shot an injured Thursday afternoon in an apparent drive-by at the end of Joseph Street.

North Providence police went to 74 Joseph St. at 2:10 p.m., where they found Luis Vera, 29, who appeared to have been shot once in his left hand and once in his left leg, according to North Providence police chief Col. Alfredo Ruggiero Jr.

Ruggiero said police learned that three people had arrived at the address in a silver Honda and a man shot at Vera from the car, which then drive off toward Providence.

Vera was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating. Ruggiero said the shooting appears to be an an isolated incident and that the public is not at risk or danger.
