A man shot and killed by police in Los Angeles over the weekend was from North Providence. Coroners have identified the man as 34-year-old Richard Solitro.

Officers with the LAPD say Saturday afternoon they were responding to a call with their lights and sirens activated when a driver cut them off and then backed into their patrol car. They say the man got out of his vehicle and approached police while wearing body armor and with one hand behind his back. Police say the man refused orders, started a "3-2-1" countdown and started to move his hand from behind his back. Police opened fire. Solitro, who did not have a weapon, died at the scene.

Sunset Boulevard in the Hollywood section was shut down after incident as police investigated.

Solitro's black sedan was emblazoned with strange words, including “King Satan 666,” "New World Order," and "Cancel All Bibles," according to NBC4 in California. A source told the news outlet that Solitro had been a long-term guest at a nearby Quality Inn Hotel.

Solitro is the same man shot by an officer in North Providence in 2018 after police went for a welfare check at his home. Solitro survived that incident. It was later reported that Solitro was shot after pointing a replica gun at a North Providence police officer.
